Understanding Malware Scan App
The Malware Scan app helps identify potential threats to the content you upload to your Portal. It enables you to conduct security scans of both new uploads and existing content on your Portal. If any infections are detected, those files are sent to the Infected Files page, where you can take various actions.
You can also customize the application to add or exempt specific files from being scanned using their extensions or set up trusted endpoints where the content added to your Portal is considered safe and does not require scanning. This allows you to optimize your malware scanning operations on your Portal for better resource efficiency.
For more information on how to configure the application, see:Configuring Malware Scan App in VIDIZMO
Scanning Activity
When the malware scan application is enabled and configured for automatic processing, it will perform a security scan on all files uploaded to your Portal. This scanning occurs when a new file is uploaded or ingested in the Portal. However, files ingested from a trusted endpoint do not undergo scanning. The scanning is also only performed on files specified according to the configurations of the malware scan application.
The malware scanning activity is integrated into all workflows on your Portal that are run whenever new content is uploaded or added from external sources. For example, whenever the encoding workflow is initiated due to an uploaded file, the malware scan activity will automatically be included in that workflow.
Activity Priority
The precedence of the malware scan activity will always be at the top amongst the rest of the activities present in the workflow. This is to ensure that the files uploaded or added to the Portal are always scanned for threats or problems before any processing (indexing) activities can be performed. The VIDIZMO Portal will not allow any processing operations on the file until it has a Clean status determined by the malware scanning activity.
Scanning Exemption
The malware scanning activity is programmed to run on files entering or being uploaded to your Portal externally. However, when new files are created from operations or functionalities within the VIDIZMO Portal (e.g., copies or clips), then a malware scan is not performed on them. This also applies to timed data or supporting files (such as .vtt) created from processing or indexing activities.
In conclusion, files generated or created via VIDIZMO Portal do not undergo a malware scan, but files added to the Portal externally will undergo scanning in all cases.
Example
For instance, if you manually upload a closed caption (.vtt) file to a video for transcriptions, that (.vtt) file will undergo scanning since it was added externally by the user.
However, if the file for transcriptions is generated via an indexing application in VIDIZMO, then that created file will not undergo a malware scan.
Some examples of other instances where files created on the Portal do not undergo scan are:
- Renditions from transcoding
- Metadata files from AI Insights
- Audio PCM files generated from Studio Space
Consumption
In VIDIZMO, conducting a malware scan on the content you upload (or have already uploaded) to your Portal utilizes the malware scan consumption resource. For instructions on how to access these consumption reports, refer to Consumption Reports for SaaS Deployment Overview.
Malware Threat Control
Malware Threat Control allows you to manage the files that have been scanned and identified as infected, as well as files for which the malware scan has failed. It serves as a control center for all files that require your attention regarding malware threats on your Portal. This functionality is available as a separate global group feature for the Portal Manager security group. Users who are part of security groups with this feature enabled can access the infected file section within their VIDIZMO Portal.
The scanning provider you select in the Malware Scan app configurations determines what information is displayed about the threats and how those threats are classified. Currently, only Windows Defender is available as the scanning provider for malware scanning activities.
